Edward Nigma's lair in Arkham Knight is based in a creepy abandoned orphanage.
My job was to create the interior hub environment where the player has combat, boss battles and leads to the other puzzle rooms on your quest to free Catwoman.
One of my favorite bits working on this room was when we took Riddler's signature scribblings to a new madness here. The puzzle rooms are unlocked in a linear sequence where the scrawling on the outside walls describe the puzzles within. They start out quite ordered and exact with "Numeracy", but by the time the player has unlocked the "Final Exam" room you can see Riddlers frustrations and hatred for the Bat splashed across the walls.
Great fun to work on, the playfulness of the old orphanage/playground elements went well with Riddler's robots and weird contraptions.
Work included constructing and dressing the environment, modeling, texturing and materials. Constructing, designing and animating the moveable robotic lighting system with the help of our great lighting team and borrowing bits from the Riddler mech.
There were a lot of shared props and some architectural elements that were made by other talented artists on the team and used here.
